5 Premier League Managers Under Pressure

3. Chris Hughton

Norwich City currently sit in the bottom three with scoring goals becoming something of a novelty. Hughton's Canaries have managed to net just twice in their last four matches in all competitions. The initial gratitude from around Carrow Road at steadying the ship following Paul Lambert leaving for Aston Villa in the summer of 2012 has been replaced by criticism. Hughton is too cautious and tactically rigid are the cries from the terraces. Football's mister nice guy may be about to learn a tough lesson. Harsh treatment is something that will not be new to Hughton, however. He was mystifyingly sacked by Newcastle having brought them back into the Premier League and replaced by Pardew. Should Delia Smith and the other Norwich shareholders lose confidence in Hughton work may not be too difficult to find. The Republic of Ireland job remains vacant and his name has been mentioned among those in contention to take the reins from Giovanni Trapattoni. Fans' frustration is born because the Canaries spent so heavily on recruitment over the summer. The striking department, in particular, was overhauled, but Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Gary Hooper and Johan Elmander are simply not firing. On paper Norwich are better than where they currently are and the next month presents them with some winnable fixtures, especially at home to West Ham and basement club Crystal Palace.
