5 Problems At Chelsea That Maurizio Sarri HAS To Fix
2. Relationship Between Chelsea Board And Manager
Antonio Conte wasn't sacked because he lost the players, one could even argue that in winning the Premier League and FA Cup in his two seasons at Stamford Bridge he wasn't sacked due to lack of success, the key reason for his departure is due to him constantly butting heads with the Chelsea board.
Immediately following Chelsea's win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final in May, Conte was very vocal regarding the board's reluctance to compete financially with the Blues' title rivals, reiterating his "back me or sack me" message.
Conte certainly wasn't the first Chelsea boss to clash with the upper echelons of the club. Jose Mourinho was sacked just seven months after winning the Premier League title because they weren't happy with his negative football.
Sarri has the opportunity to rebuild the relationship between manager and board. It's clear that the Blues books need to be balanced and, as previously mentioned, with a clear out of the deadwood and inevitable sale of big-name players coupled with shrewd signings, he could revamp this Chelsea side without breaking the bank.
Furthermore, if Sarri can transform Chelsea's style of play from counter-attacking conservatism to the entertaining, constantly threatening 'Sarri-ball', he'd quickly get the powers-that-be on his side.
