Their defence isn't the best in the division, far from it. However, they've shown that they are no pushovers and can do a brilliant job on their day. They've only conceded more than two goals on one occasion, away to the brilliant Southampton who defeated them 4-1. On top of this, the only teams that score two against them were Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester City. They are games you'd expect them to lose and against Newcastle they actually picked up a 3-2 victory. They went on a four-game unbeaten run with their games against Cardiff, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa, picking up wins in three out of those four games. These are the kind of runs you need to survive in the Premier League. Hull have kept clean-sheets against Norwich, West Ham, Sunderland and Aston Villa. Though not the best sides in the division these are the sort of games that they will be looking at to pick up decent results, which they have done. Against Liverpool they conceded a brilliant free-kick, you couldn't stop Steven Gerrard from finding the net with that one. Then, throughout the game, they frustrated Liverpool. Time and time again they halted the Reds attack with solid defending. Not last-ditch and not messy, organised and controlled. It's also worth noting that when the game was 1-1 Liverpool made their only real chance of the match and were denied by a superb save from Allan McGregor, who Steve Bruce believes would be in the reckoning for an national call-up from Roy Hodgson if he was English.
