5 Reasons Why Conor McGregor Receiving A UFC Title Shot Makes Sense

3. A Fresh Contender In A Stagnant Division

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQNrIiOP7xo While the featherweight division is starting to become one of the better divisions, it still features fighters that have already fought Jose Aldo. Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson are elite fighters, but they€™ve lost to Aldo convincingly already. Some may argue that Swanson has drastically evolved from being knocked out in nine seconds against Aldo in WEC. That€™s a justifiable argument, as he€™s proven on his resume that he€™s evolved in the past three years. Still it won€™t ever be erased in the history books. Now everything can change if Mendes becomes champion, which is a realistic possibility. Still if that€™s the case, you look at how fresh McGregor looks as a contender. There are certain fighters that you want to see tested before receiving a title shot. That doesn€™t apply to someone as charismatic and explosive as McGregor. Once again, it can€™t be forgotten that the UFC is a business. McGregor has played a vital part in the revitalization of a stagnant division. Nik Lentz, Jeremy Stephens, and Max Holloway have been exciting to watch rise up the ranks in the featherweight division. They€™ve played their roles, but nobody has impacted the division and created an outlet to a European market like McGregor.
