5 Reasons Why McClaren's Newcastle Are Trying To Emulate Swansea

2. Swansea Have A History Of Making Shrewd Signings

It is no secret that Newcastle United - and even the "new" Newcastle United - like value for money when it comes to signings, but so too do Swansea City. Sell-on potential is important to both clubs, and the Swans have a history of making shrewd acquisitions. Most-notably, Swansea paid £12 million in order to bring Wilfried Bony to the club from Vitesse Arnhem and, once the player had delivered an impressive 34 goals in 70 appearances, he was then sold on to Manchester City for £28 million - a profit of £16 million. Jefferson Montero, Jack Cork, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lukasz Fabianski and Michu are just five other players Swansea have recruited from less than £7 million each in the past few years, all of who have proven to be exceptional recruits. Newcastle are hoping that their recruitment will pay dividends in such a way - in fairness as it has done previously with Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy - and Swansea are one of the clubs they should be looking to emulate in the transfer department.
