It's been a periodic subject of fierce debate ever since 2010 when they were awarded the rights ahead of Australia, the United States, Japan and South Korea, but Qatar's suitability as the host nation for the 2022 World Cup is being called into question in a big way once again over the last few days. This week FIFA are due to meet to discuss the issues with the wealthy desert state as host. By some margin the most controversial World Cup host there has ever been, which is really saying something for a tournament previously hosted by Fascist Italy and the Argentinian military junta of the 1970s, it seems hard to believe that FIFA will stick with their original decision. However, football's governing body still seems desperate to make a Qatari World Cup work at any cost.
