5 Ups & 3 Downs From NFL 2019 Live At Wembley
2. Some Seriously Contrived Game Breaks
Ad breaks are just something sports fans have to put up with, and it must be challenging for the NFL to come up with ways to fill that time. At Wembley, they had a Pepsi Max 'Party' troupe, the usual cheerleader dance routines, several sideline interviews with ex players and, randomly, boxing hard nut Tyson Fury.
They even found the time to ask Tyson about his trip to Saudi Arabia with WWE this coming Thursday.
None of this felt natural, and things got awkward once it became clear that Fury either froze when quizzed or didn't know much about American football. His "Go Rams" spiel was blatantly scripted, and so were contrived comments from announcers about how much overwhelming support there had been at the Tailgate for LA.
In a few words, that wasn't true. Fans of almost all 32 teams were represented at this "home" game for the Rams, and there were lots of Bengals supporters in the stands too. Maybe the NFL felt they needed to compensate for the fact they'd moved one of LA's actual home fixtures to London.
