6 Takeaways From UFC Auckland

1. The Best Of The Rest

JJ Aldrich picked up her first UFC win in a fight perhaps most notable for her opponent's smile getting wider the more she got punched. Chan-Mi Jeon, the youngest fighter in the promotion, came in at just 19 years old looking pretty unfazed and oozing charisma. Aldrich wanted a technical fight while Jeon just wanted a brawl. The more experienced Aldrich won out in the end, keeping it at distance and picking her off to take all three rounds, but Jeon left an impression on the crowd, who loved this crazy lady with the busted up nose and the evil smile. If this MMA lark doesn't work out for her, a career in pro wrestling surely awaits, and that's no knock on pro wrestling!

John Moraga, who'd lost three straight going into his fight with Ashkan Mokhtarian, got a little treat. This was a tune-up fight if ever I've seen one. Mokhtarian had no business being in the Octagon with a former title challenger, and got schooled for 15 minutes. That two of the three judges didn't find any 10-8 rounds in this one sided beat down was a mystery.

Vinc Pichel returned for the first time in three years, knocked out Damien Brown in the first round, and ran around the cage swearing about how ring rust wasn't a thing, so there was that.

All in all this was a fun night of fights. The prelims were unremarkable, but with emphatic finishes all over the main card, this was a really good night of fights.
