7 Decisions McClaren Needs To Make Ahead Of Swansea Clash

2. Who Starts Up Front - Cisse, Perez Or Mitrovic?

Papiss Cisse got a start last weekend and got a goal to go with it. Some might argue he only had to chest the ball in from a yard out hardly shows off his finishing ability but the fact that he was in the position to get on the end of the deflected, looping cross shows what he is all about. Cisse may have struggled with the offside trap in the past but always gets himself into space around the box and a poacher's goal like that sums him up really. Prior to the weekend, many fans wanted to see big-money Aleksandar Mitrovic start against the men from St Mary's. In the second-half, they got a chance to see the new man in action - unfortunately, his only input was to get involved in two incidents for which he could well have been sent-off. The big Serbian is a more complete player than Cisse, with a strong presence in the air as well as an eye for goal but having only recently arrived, you can understand why McClaren was reluctant to start him. Ayoze Perez was one of the stars of last season but seems to be a bit of an odd man out at the moment. He recently came out and said that he will play anywhere in the team, an obvious indication that he sees his chances through the middle as the main man reduced this year with Mitrovic added to the mix. Perez has a bit of trickery that neither Mitrovic and Cisse seem to possess but, without exceptional pace or aerial ability, it's hard to see him getting the same chances as last year. Stick or twist: Stick Similar to Obertan, you have to go with the hot hand (and not the hot head). Cisse is a striker who lives to score goals and seems to be a player who scores in spurts - if you chop and change, you risk messing with that. Against Swansea, the temptation may be to stick Mitrovic up front and let him battle Ashley Williams in the air but, with a goal under his belt, a confidence-filled Cisse could cause them problems with his movement in a different manner. It would appear that Perez is going to have to wait for his chance and may have to play super-sub in the near future.
