7 Things To Take From Wimbledon 2014

2. Djokovic Back At The Top Of Tennis Mountain

WikipediaWikipedia Before Wimbledon 2014 Djokovic was the favourite to win the tournament and return to the top of the men's ATP rankings. Throughout the tournament the Serbian faced stiff competition and had to battle back in tough matches on numerous occasions. Many rumoured that he had developed a mental bloc having lost so many successive Grand Slam finals. After all his last Grand Slam victory came at the Australian Open in January of 2013. However such talk proved to be unfounded as Djokovic eventually progressed to the Wimbledon final where he ground out a thrilling 5 set victory over Roger Federer. By winning his 7th Grand Slam and reclaiming the number 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal, Djokovic has signalled to the tennis world that he is now ready to resume his form and dominant tennis he last displayed in his best season to date in 2011. As 'the man' in tennis, it is hard to see how the rest of the field can knock him off of the top of tennis mountain in the foreseeable future. Yet as we have seen in Wimbledon 2014, there are no guarantees in tennis and (forgive the cheesiness!) anything can indeed happen.
