7 Things To Take From Wimbledon 2014

3. The Emergence Of Youth

wikiWikipediaOne of the biggest stories at Wimbledon 2014 was the emergence of new young and up-and-coming talent. On the men's side Grigor Dimitrov revealed his potential to emulate the dominant all court game of Roger Federer by narrowly losing to eventual Champion Novak Djokovic in a thrilling four set semi-final. Milos Raonic revealed that he has more of a game than just an impressive serve, and most memorable perhaps was the big serving and big hitting Nick Krygios who dazzled the tennis world with his talent as he dumped Nadal out of a Wimbledon Tournament in what is for Nadal his third premature Wimbledon exit in as many years. On the women's side Romanian Simona Halep displayed an all court game not seen since the days of Justine Henin, whilst Canadian Eugenie Bouchard won over many fans with her compact and composed game; a style last seen when Chris Evert graced the lawns of SW19. Of course the emergence or rather re-emergence of Petra Kvitova to the forefront of women's tennis revealed to tennis fans that behind the superstars in Serena and Sharapova, a new line up of tennis talent are ready to emerge centre stage. Besides the tennis, the drama and the upsets Wimbledon 2013 showcased the future male and female stars of tennis and with it perhaps secured the future of tennis itself.
