6. Spurs Players Started Sol Campbell Gay Rumours
Sol Campbell - the former Spurs defender and the most hated man amongst the White Hart Lane faithful, following his free transfer move to Arsenal in 2001 - caused a lot of controversy whilst publicising his autobiography earlier this year, mostly for accusing the Football Association of being racist and claiming that If I was white, Id have been England captain for 10 years. However, aside from that, he also started a rumour about a rumour which had absolutely no foundation whatsoever. Rumours about Campbell's sexuality have been doing the rounds for years. The ex-England international is straight, but rumours of him being gay persisted for many years. However, Campbell claimed that they were started by his former Spurs team-mates which, in itself, started rumours about who specifically may have been responsible. Of course, the likelihood of that being the case is slim to zero and, had a former team-mate been responsible, we'd surely have been given a name by now.
