7 Things Learned From Sunderland's 1-0 Loss To Sacramento Republic
5. Doubts Over Mannone's Departure?
Vito Mannone played 90 minutes against Sacramento, a surprising decision given the availability of youngster Jordan Pickford, and the numerous reports of an impending departure for the Italian. Vito was handed the start in the wake of Costel Pantilimon's unavailability - a continuing precaution regarding an injury sustained late last season - but didn't exactly have the most convincing performance between the sticks. Although Sacramento's winning strike was an undoubtedly well-placed effort, it lacked venom and came a good 20 yards from goal. A keeper of Mannone's calibre would have been expected to save such a tame effort, perhaps indicating that the League Cup semi final hero is yet to regain the confidence lost early last season.
