8 Footballers Who Could End The Lionel Messi/Cristiano Ronaldo Era Of Dominance

6. Marco Reus

Germany's fully deserved march to World Cup glory last summer was hugely impressive, with the likes of Gotze, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Muller, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos all starring. It's easy to forget that they didn't even have Reus though, who is the best player they have to offer right now. The 25-year-old was cruelly ruled out through injury, and the tournament was robbed of one of the world's finest players. Reus is a fabulous footballer who continues to go from strength to strength, and his combination of goals, assists, trickery and skill are all genuinely world-class. The Borussia Dortmund star has only featured nine times this season because of injury, scoring five times, and Jurgen Klopp's side sit second from bottom of the Bundesliga. That's how important he is to his side. The German's future has been talked about plenty in recent months, and there can be no doubting that it lies away from Dortmund. He is good enough to thrive at any team in the world, with Bayern and Real Madrid the current favourites to acquire his signature in the summer. His game will go up a further gear when he moves, and there is no reason why he couldn't become a future Ballon d'Or winner. He is at an age where he can still improve further too.
