4. Julian Gray
Matthew Ashton/EMPICS SportThe winger who was so pivotal in Palaces 2003/04 campaign must surely have wished that he stuck around at Selhurst Park because after this point his career certainly began a premature decline. Though he didnt play in the play-off final due to suspension, the South London born footballer was extremely important in the memorable Palace season because of his speed and flexibility Gray may have preferred a position on the left wing but he also could play as an auxiliary striker and even as a full-back. Gray might have helped Palace get into the top flight but this didnt stop him transferring to Premiership rivals Birmingham City with the expiration of his contract. This would mean that Gray would be rejoining former boss Steve Bruce, who had managed Crystal Palace in 2001. Frustratingly Bruce had taken several Palace players with him to the midlands. Gray spent three seasons with Birmingham and while he did rack up 60 appearances during this time, the vast majority of these were as a substitute. After being released from Birmingham in 2007, Grey transitioned from club to club playing fairly little football. The wingers stock had fallen radically, culminating with his playing in the Cypriot league for two seasons with Nea Salamis Famagusta FC (no we havent heard of them either).
