8 Worst Replacements For World Class Footballers
3. Dimitar Berbatov And Robbie Keane To Roman Pavlyuchenko
In 2007, Spurs saw the first ever joint Player of the Month award. Berbatov and Keane were a strike partnership for the ages, and worked perfectly to supplement each others' strengths. Berbatov was the creator, with a beautiful touch to go perfectly with his movie star good looks. Keane was the finisher, a real poacher in the box, often seen wheeling away to cartwheel and finger gun after another smart finish.
For some reason, Spurs decided to sell them both in the same window. They replaced them with a striker whose name was too big to fit onto a shirt, not that many fans would have been buying his shirt anyway. "Pav" was good for a wondergoal every now and then, but very little else.
It was no surprise when Jermain Defoe was brought in that January to bring some much needed firepower up top. Although he may have been a fan favourite for his ability to absolutely thump the ball in the top corner, Pavlyuchenko did very little to make Spurs fans forget about the partnership they'd just lost.
