8 Worst Replacements For World Class Footballers

2. Diego Costa To Alvaro Morata

Memory may serve differently, but on his day, Diego Costa was an absolute battering ram.

The ultimate sh*thouse, Costa scored 52 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea, and was a force to be reckoned with as the focal point of the Stamford Bridge attack. He was incredible for them before being phased out by Antonio Conte, with no discernible reason behind it.

Replacing him with Morata seemed a great idea at the time, and the Spaniard cost Chelsea around £60m, scoring 8 goals in his first 11 appearances. In hindsight, not so much. Morata flopped so hard that he ended up joining Atletico Madrid after a season-long loan there - where he usurped Costa in the pecking order. Isn't life strange?
