3. Collingwood vs Essendon - AFL Grand Final, 1990

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ8VgZ_OD58 The 1990 AFL Grand Final was Collingwood's first Premiership in 32 years, ending what many commentators had called "The Colliwobbles". In the 1990 Grand Final, they were matched against arch rivals Essendon for the flag. The first quarter was incredibly close, with both sides kicking two goals a piece in a very tight quarter, with Collingwood leading by 3 points. However, right after the Quarter time siren a fight broke out as the players were leaving the ground. The brawl started after Kieran Sporn, from Essendon, hit Kevin Banks, from Collingwood, in response to Banks hitting Sporn through the first quarter. Viewing the incident, Collingwood players Craig Kelly and Gavin Brown rushed to the aid of their felled team mate, Brown reached the fray first, hitting Sporn, but he was collected from behind and knocked out by Essendon captain Terry Daniher. What made the Collingwood and Essendon brawl different from many others was after viewing the fight between Sporn and Banks, Essendon runner Peter Power looked to join the brawl. However, Power was king hit by Collingwood manager Graeme Allen, in response Allen was hit by Kevin Sheedy, the Essendon coach and was set on by Mark Harvey, then an Essendon defender. While Sheedy and Harvey attempted a retreat, witnesses saw Essendon bootstudder, Graham Mendola clock Allen with an uppercut before being set upon by Collingwood team manager Eddie Hillgrove. In the end Collingwood triumphed by a comfortable 48 points, winning their 14th premiership, their first in the AFL era. In the fallout, 10 people face the tribunal, including 3 officials. The result of this brawl lead to the AFL cracking down on brawls, imposing harsher punishments and sanctions for players that participate in brawls and melees.
