Arsenal Transfer News: 5 Reasons Why Bacary Sagna Must Be Sold

has rejected Arsenal€™s offer of a 12 month extension to his £60,000 a week contract that expires in 2014. According to the reports, the French international full back feels €˜disrespected€™ by the offer and a parting of the ways in the near future seems inevitable. Sagna has made a good impression in North London but his departure may not be so disappointing, in fact it might be the best move not just for the player, but also for the club. Here we examine why Arsene Wenger should sell his first choice right back.

1. Injuries

On 28th August 2011, Sagna broke his leg in the North London Derby at White Hart Lane in a collision with Spurs full back Benoit Assou-Ekotto and the advertising hoarding. At the time the injury did not look as serious €“ there was no stretcher, no oxygen mask €“ and as he was off the pitch while receiving treatment the game went on without him. Only after the game was the extent of the injury fully realised. In January 2012 Sagna made his return, but in the final game of the season he broke the same leg again in a challenge with Norwich€™s Bradley Johnson, missing Euro 2012. Sagna has returned from his broken leg but a foot injury will rule him out of the game at West Brom, and it seems the ex-Auxerre man is suffering a touch of the Diabys. On the verge of turning 30, Sagna cannot afford to miss games because of injuries and Wenger may be best off selling him now before the injury prone tag stick to Sagna and hits his transfer value.
