Arsenal Transfer News: Rui Patricio To Replace Wojciech Szczesny?
Arsenal are lining up a summer move for Sporting Lisbon keeper Rui Patricio, according to the Express. He joins a long line of goalkeepers to have been linked with the club in recent months as the future of Wojciech Szczesny looks increasingly uncertain. Manager Arsene Wenger was linked with a move for Liverpool's Pepe Reina this week, while Victor Valdes has also been tipped with a move to the Emirates, casting the future of incumbent No.1 goalkeeper Szczesny into fresh doubt. Wenger is understood to be concerned about the Polish shot-stopper's "state of mind" and dropped him for Arsenal's recent Champions League defeat over Bayern Munich. Reports in Spain have surfaced recently suggesting the Gunners have already made an opening offer of £8.4 million for Patricio. However, it is believed Lisbon are holding out for £12.6 million. The same report also suggests Wenger is prepared to sell a player as part of a possible swap deal for the Portugal star. Patricio replaced Eduardo as No.1 for Portugal's Euro 2012 campaign recently, and the 25-year old is viewed as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe. He helped Portugal keep a clean sheet in their recent World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan.
