Arsenal Transfer News: Theo Walcott To Sign New Contract?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Walcott will stay a Gunner.

Mirror. Walcott is the Gunners' top goal scorer this season with 14 strikes so far, and scored a hat-trick against Newcastle in Arsenal's 7-3 win on December 29th. He is in the final year of his current contract at the Emirates and in August news broke that he had refused to sign a new deal at the club, sparking fears that he could join Robin van Persie in leaving at the end of his contract. However, in spite of recent reports stating Walcott and his advisers had held a meeting with the club over a new deal proving to be wide of the mark, it is believed both parties will meet over the coming days to thrash out a deal. And both Wenger and Walcott's teammates are confident the England star will sign a new deal to tie him down to the club for the next five years. Arsenal will likely have to increase their initial offer of £75,000-a-week if they are to make this happen, though. A string of Premier League clubs have been following the situation for a number of months now since news broke of Walcott's situation at the Emirates, with Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs thought to be interested. But it looks as though Wenger has finally managed to convince his man to stay after promising him a more advanced position in the team, by switching him from a winger to a forward.
