Arsenal Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Considering Gunners Move?

Daily Mail. United are refusing to sell the 27-year-old to a title rival and have already rejected an opening offer from the Blues. But the England international would be willing to move to Arsenal instead if David Moyes rejects Jose Mourinho's next offer. The Gunner's interest in Rooney dates back to March when the striker was controversially omitted from retired manager Sir Alex Ferguson's starting XI to face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League encounter. They're even prepared to meet the former Everton man's enormous wage demands - he earns £240,000-a-week - and Arsenal will break their wage structure and offer £200,000-a-week on a five-year contract. Chelsea however remain the front runners in the race for Rooney's signature and last week had an official bid of £23 million plus £2.5 million in additional clauses rejected by the English champions. Mourinho's star quality could be an attractive proposition for the forward, 28 later this year, though he also respects Arsene Wenger and has been told the Frenchman intends to build his team around him. And that suits Rooney just fine, as he felt increasingly marginalised at Old Trafford last season.
