Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Admits Alex Song To Barcelona?

Barcelona ramp up their interest in The Gunners' top supplier.

BBC Sport. Barca manager Tito Vilanova is apparently keen to bring in a strong tackling midfielder option, though 24-year-old Song has evolved into a more complex all-rounder. Last term, Song racked up 14 assists for his team, more than any other Arsenal player, and Wenger may choose to put up a good fight to keep him, especially in light of Robin van Persie's shock move to Manchester United. The Gunners' boss has however stated that there is the possibility of more signings to join strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud and midfielder Santi Carzola who have all joined the club this summer. This perhaps could hint towards the capture of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, who the side has been linked with in the past month but most recently looked like he could be joining Liverpool. When asked at Arsenal's pre-match press conference ahead of their opening Premier League encounter against Sunderland on Saturday about the possibility of Song's sale to Barca and the arrival of Sahin at the Emirates, Wenger said; "Both can happen." Wenger is however known for not jumping the gun on deals before the ink has dried, and so his coy manner might simply suggest that a deal is going through, but has not yet been finalised. While Song, a Cameroon international, is said to be content at Arsenal, Barcelona are said to be highly enthusiastic about the prospect of the signing.
