Arsenal Transfers: 10 Strikers Arsene Wenger Must Sign Before Window Shuts
9. Salomon Kalou
A choice from left-field, many Arsenal fans are probably wincing at the thought of 30-year-old Salomon Kalou being paraded as the club’s marquee signing at the end of a summer in which the likes of Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain. It would be the ultimate - and yet wholly predictable - kick in the nuts, right?
It’s true that the Ivorian is no world-beater, nor was he during his time at Chelsea. But he was a terribly under-rated player - how else would he have lasted six seasons at Stamford Bridge and racking up over 250 appearances in the process?
Able to play on the wing or as the lone striker, Kalou has always been able to sniff out a goal. He has 28 goals for his country, 60 for Chelsea, and 57 in the interim four seasons since he left England. Having bagged 17 goals for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga last season, Kalou has shown no signs of slowing down.
He may not be a starter, or have the pace anymore, but he always had good technique, and the enviable knack of popping up with a goal. He’d be a damn sighter better than Theo Walcott, that’s for sure.
