Arsenal Transfers: 5 Players Wenger Still Desperately Needs To Replace Tonight

MailOnline), but that deal is far from the only change to the Arsenal squad that Arsene Wenger should be looking at completing before the transfer window slams shut tonight at 11pm. This season is a big one for the Arsenal manager, with rumblings from the stands suggesting that some Arsenal fans have begun to run out of patience with The Professor. Some silverware would go down extremely well at The Emirates, especially if Wenger is to continue his association with the club he has reshaped entirely during his reign, and he could do with something of an overhaul of some key areas of his squad in the remaining hours of the window. Here are the players Wenger still needs to replace...

5. Robin Van Persie

Robin Van Persie

One of the biggest will-he/won't-he deals of this window has been that suggested to be taking Spanish star David Villa away from Barcelona, with Arsenal repeatedly suggested as a possible destination. According to the MailOnline, Villa was classed as Arsenal's top target, which suggests that Arsene Wenger has been actively pursuing further striking options, and particularly the kind of central figurehead who could replace Robin Van Persie's goal-scoring exploits. Villa would have been the ideal solution, particularly if he had come in on loan - and stranger things have happened in transfer windows past - but given the lack of available striking options on the club's books, Wenger should have had a plan B. If there's one thing all clubs should have learned from the Andy Carroll saga (aside from not spending too much money on limited talents), it's that plan Bs should always be well laid in advance.
