David Villa's protracted move away from Barcelona has been one of the most enduring transfer sagas of the January window. It has been on again-off again more times than your average teenage romance. This week has seen Wenger step up his pursuit of Spain's all-time top goalscorer*, before backtracking by insisting the move would not happen.** This has been coupled with Barcelona's refusal to sell the player as well as Villa's attempt to force his way out of the club.*** It's all very confusing. Apparently, Wenger will make one final (definitely final this time, probably) attempt to land the striker after admitting he has a shortage of strikers at the Emirates. There are also growing concerns about the remainder of the Premier League season with the Gunners failing to add a single player to their ranks this month.
