Central Midfielder 1: Denilson
When most players got better as time passes, Denilson was seemingly no better than during his first few years at the club. A Brazilian prodigy that was remarkably inexperienced when signed by Wenger aged only seventeen, he was very quickly given some exposure in the first team. In the 2008/09 season, injuries and departures of certain players meant that he was placed into regular action alongside Cesc Fabregas in midfield, and though he was certainly not at the same calibre as his fellow player, he was certainly able to hold his own when Arsenal were in possession. However, he certainly wasn't strong enough physically to handle the defensive obligations of his position, so he was often found wanting when the ball was with the opposition. With the emergence of young starlets Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere in the team, Denilson found his position under threat, and this was not helped by constant recurring injuries. He was limited to matches in the domestic cups and substitute appearances as his lack of strength and consistency became dramatically apparent, and he was also longing for a return to Brazil after being in England since 2005. His contract was soon terminated without much fuss and he left without much attention paid to him. Still, he made 153 appearances, a strong return for a remarkably average player. Other contenders: Junichi Inamoto, Gilles Grimandi
