3. Aleksandar Tonev

Upon his arrival at Villa Park from Lech Poznan in 2013, Bulgarian international Aleksandar Tonev referred to the success of compatriots Petrov and Berbatov in the Premier League, but it hasn't quite worked out that way for the attacking midfielder. Like many within this list Tonev was signed during the Lambert era but was loaned out to Celtic after a disappointing first season, and while at the Scottish club, he was given a seven-match ban for racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan. Tonev recently played a part during pre-season and scored against Forest Green Rovers though his future at the club remains to be seen.
