2. Lleyton Hewitt (Aus) vs Andreas Seppi (Ita)(24)

This is probably the most interesting first round match. There isn't much between them in their head to head stats with Seppi winning three out of the five previous encounters. Most recently, Seppi beat Hewitt 6-4 6-2 in Shanghai last August. Seppi comes into this tournament as the 24th seed whilst Hewitt is unseeded. But whilst these stats certainly seem to lean towards Seppi, you can never rule out the most tenacious player in tennis. At 32, Hewitt is still playing some amazing games. In the run up to the Australian Open, he has beaten Roger Federer to win the final of the Brisbane International before going on to beat a raw Andy Murray in an exhibition match. He has also beaten some impressive competitors, such as sixteenth seed Kei Nishikori and twenty-sixth seed Feliciano Lopez. This is some pretty impressive form coming into a grand slam on home turf, especially when Seppi went out to an Australian wild card in the second round of the Sydney ATP tournament (6-3 6-4). But Seppi clearly knows the key to Hewitt's game. They've played each other a considerable amount of times and have surely gathered a lot of tactical information in that time. Seppi made it all the way to the fourth round last year. Hewitt has an unusually inconsistent record for a slam in his own country. You can try and read the stats any way you want. But this has all the makings of a great match up. Who will come out on top?
