Best Premier League XI Of The Last Decade

9. CB - Vincent Kompany

The ultimate leader of his generation, Vincent Kompany was the defensive rock that helped turn Manchester City into the best side of the decade. With 360 appearances for the team and four Premier League medals to his name, it would be impossible to not have him as one of our two centre backs.

Developed in the famous Anderlecht youth academy, Kompany brought his particular brand of no nonsense defending and demanding personality to the newly formed super team from Manchester.

These qualities made him a favourite among fans and an imposing figure for opponents. It's a testament to his footballing ability that he's been able to be a near enough undroppable within a side that has had as many managerial changes during his ten seasons with City.

Manchester City might be considered one of the best teams in the Premier League now, but it's plausible that without Kompany in their back four they wouldn't have won the titles that got them their current status. Now that he's retired from football, filling the defensive hole left by him might be the biggest task The Citizens face.
