He's not a bruiser or the type of defender who uses dirty tactics to keep attackers at bay. Van Dijk is as smooth as they come. We saw this at Southampton where his ability to shut down strikers with minimal fuss was on show for all to see. Liverpool paid attention and bought him for what seemed like a staggering amount of money.
While many scoffed at his transfer fee, it's proven to be a fantastic piece of business as he's become the heart of the Liverpool defense. Although he hasn't added a Premier League medal to his mantlepiece just yet, he has more than proven himself to be the most elite centre back currently plying their trade in the league right now.
