Newcastle United striker Loic Remy scored a first-half double to see the North-East side to victory against newly-promoted Cardiff City. United took the lead after half an hour through Remy. The France international picked up the ball from distance, and cut inside to hit a fierce drive into the bottom corner. Just eight minutes later, the same man was at it again for the Toon Army. After Papiss Cisse's initial shot was saved by Cardiff 'keeper David Marshall, Remy was on hand to coolly finish the rebound from the edge of the box. After the break, it was Cardiff who were looking the most likely to pull a goal back, and it took them until the hour mark to make it 2-1. Peter Odemwingie finished inside the area after midfielder Jordan Mutch put him through on goal to threaten a City comeback. However, Newcastle United held on for victory, and the win sees them in 10th place on 10 points. After their recent back to back league defeats to Hull City and Everton, manager Alan Pardew will be delighted to have gotten back to winning ways after tipping his side for a top-half finish. Cardiff's defeat sees them still three points above the drop zone, with eight points from their first seven games.
