10 Greatest Ever Celtic Managers

8. Ronny Deila

When Neil Lennon departed Celtic, supporters of the Bhoys expected a big-name replacement but they were left somewhat underwhelmed when the club announced the arrival of Ronny Deila, who had spent the previous six years with Norwegian club Stromsgodset. Deila has since gone on to win 67 of his 102 matches in charge, as well as claim the Scottish title and League Cup in his first campaign. However, those kind of achievements are the minimum expectations when managing Celtic, and a number of dismal results in Europe has ensured that Deila has never been truly accepted. A last-32 appearance in the Europa League last season came as a result of a failed attempt to qualify for the Champions League. They even had two bites of the cherry after previously losing 6-1 on aggregate to Legia Warsaw, who were kicked out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player. Twelve months on from that disappointment, Celtic would again miss out on a place at European football's top table after losing to Malmo in the final qualifying round. A Europa League campaign which included no victories has now left Deila fighting for his job on a seemingly weekly basis, despite holding a slender advantage over Aberdeen at the top of the table.
