Champions League: Ranking 8 Remaining Teams' Chances Of Victory
4. Atletico Madrid
The 2012/2013 Borussia Dortmund of the 2013/2014 Champions League season, Atletico Madrid are the obvious underdogs heading into the quarter finals, but Atletico have been far more consistent and thrilling than any other team in La Liga, including heavy-weights Real Madrid and Barcelona. Their success in the La Liga this term has been extremely refreshing considering how much the league has been dominated by Barca and Real over the years. Atletico however are no one hit wonders, and boast two wonderfully gifted forwards in Diego Costa and David Villa, and a very well rounded midfield with the likes of Koke and Raul Garcia. The real factor that has pushed Atletico so far in the Champions League this season, is that nobody saw them coming: they debatably has an even bigger surprise factor than Dortmund did last season and we all know how far Dortmund got. Furthermore while not having the most technically gifted squad like PSG or the finesse of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid this season have had superior team understanding and communication to most other teams, credit given to manager Diego Simeone's work. Despite all these pros though, Atletico Madrid have one huge underlying flaw - their lack of Champions League experience. While being accustomed to the style of La Liga and thriving in it, Atletico could flounder when it comes to facing teams from other regions with contrasting styles. Atletico were lucky in the quarter final draw however, and drew fellow Spanish team Barcelona whom they are extremely familiar with. This could take Atletico far in the Champions League as it has in La Liga and for once they actually look likely to beat the Catalonian team in the Quarter Finals.
My name is Akhilan and I am simply a 15 year old teenager from a little Asian country called Malaysia. I have grown up in quite a comfortable area, but for the past year or so, I have been struggling for an identity and a direction to ponder in the future. While other subjects in school totally bored me and left me with no inspiration, English called out to me and ever since I have been doing what I love, writing, public speaking, debating and so on, while still juggling schoolwork. I hope I can share some of my writing on this platform as well and I am very grateful for this opportunity.
