Champions League: Week One Review

Group E

We€™re now on to Wednesday€™s matches and Juventus managed to come from two behind to draw at Stamford Bridge. Oscar was quiet before unleashing two formidable strikes within two minutes to put Chelsea ahead. The first took a lucky deflection but the second was a move of beauty: Ashley Cole passed the ball through into the path of Oscar, who swerved and smashed the ball passed Gigi Buffon. The Old Lady continued to apply pressure and Arturo Vidal managed to pull one back minutes before the break. With ten minutes to go Quagliarella put the ball through the legs of Petr Cech to go level after a mistake from John Terry allowed the striker free space. No team has ever retained the Champions League and despite a number of new arrivals this Chelsea team still needs to find a consistently potent striker. Juventus deserved the draw and perhaps they would have won the three points if Oscar wasn€™t on top form. Both teams have a good chance of challenging for the trophy if they can continue to perform at this level. Shakhtar Donetsk started off on fine form with a 2-0 victory over FC Nordsjaelland courtesy of a double from Mkhitarryan. The Danish team will hope they do not become the whipping boys of the group and even though the odds will be against Shakhtar, they have a strong team and could cause problems for both Juventus and Chelsea.
