Chelsea Transfer News: £23.5M For Andre Schurrie?

Chelsea are preparing to bid £23.5 million for German striker Andre Schurrie in their latest attempt to replace Didier Drogba.

According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are preparing to bid £23.5 million for German striker Andre Schurrie in their latest attempt to replace Didier Drogba. The possible signing of 21-year-old Andre Schurrie would take Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich's big summer spending to just under £90 million. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo confirmed yesterday that the club are aiming to bring in another striker before the transfer window closes in just nine days. Di Matteo admitted:
€œWe€™re probably a bit light in attack.€
Fernando Torres and Daniel Sturridge are the club's two main strikers but with Torres not exactly hitting form at the club and with Sturridge needing more time to develop, Chelsea would benefit from another addition to their strike force. Schurrie scored only 7 goals last season despite playing 31 times for Bayern Leverkusen, which does suggest that £23.5 million may be too pricey. The 2012 Champions League winners are hoping to challenge for the title this season, which is the reason for the considerably large amount of transfer activity the club has already completed this summer.
