Chelsea Transfer News: AS Monaco Target John Terry
The Metro, big-spenders Monaco are preparing an offer to lure Chelseas John Terry away from Stamford Bridge this summer. The newly promoted Ligue 1 side have already spent well over £110 million on At.Madrid Radamel Falcao along with FC Porto duo James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho, but are now looking to add experienced defender John Terry to their side. With Jose Mourinho being made the new manager of Chelsea, for the second time, John Terry may find himself unwanted by Mourinho who is eager to strengthen the back four. Monaco believe they could secure Terry for as little as £7 million this summer in hopes that Chelsea will want to get the aging Terry off of the wage bill. The 32-year-old has been a crucial part of the Chelsea defence for several years but with the likes of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic all able to play in the central defender role, Terrys time at Chelsea could be running out. The veteran has been out of favour at Chelsea in the last few months having played in just 14 Premier League games last season compared to the 2011/12 season when the Chelsea captain featured in 31 league games. Terry has found it difficult getting back into the side after suffering a knee injury back in November 2012. Despite playing for Chelsea since 1998, except going on loan to Nottingham Forrest in 2000-01, Terry hinted that he was not considering a contract renewal at the club but did say;
"I will continue to do everything I can possible, whether I play or don't play, to move this football club in the direction that we want to be."
