Chelsea Transfer News: Barcelona Want £17 Million Cut-Price Fernando Torres?

And the Catalans will be hoping to sign the Spaniard for a cut-price £17 million - less than half of the £50 million the Blues shelled out on the striker when they signed him from Liverpool in a British transfer-record-breaking deal in 2011. Newly-appointed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who is returning for a second spell at Stamford Bridge, is set to hold talks with the striker within the coming weeks and will respect whatever decision the forward makes over his future. However, should Torres leave for Barcelona, it will only be as a substitute, according to the Mirror. The 29-year old has only scored one league goal this year and Barca will be hoping they can convince him to swap the Chelsea bench for theirs, and intend for him to play the role of a goal-scoring super-sub. The Nou Camp giants look set to sell David Villa this summer and are seeking backup for Pedro. Should Torres agree to the deal, he would be returning to Spain for the first time since 2007 when he left Atletico Madrid. The player is currently away on Confederations Cup duty.
