Chelsea Transfer News: Blues To Make £35 Million Rooney Bid In January

Chelsea are set to reignite their interest in Wayne Rooney by making a fresh, £35 million bid for the Manchester United striker in January, according to the Metro. The Blues had two offers for the England international rejected over the summer, the most recent of which being £25 million plus add-ons, with United successfully resisting all overtures for their star man. Jose Mourinho appeared to resign himself to the fact Rooney would not be leaving Old Trafford for the foreseeable, while speculation that the forward is unhappy with life at the English champions has cooled in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the ex-Everton man revealed he has been given a "new lease of life" under new United boss David Moyes, seemingly putting to bed any rumours of discontent between the two. However, Chelsea are determined to try again for Rooney in the New Year, and will test the Red Devil's resolve by making a huge, £35 million bid for the 28-year-old. Despite the improving form of Fernando Torres, who provided an assist and scored in yesterday's 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho is still on the lookout for a new striker. Rooney has 20 months remaining on his current deal, and despite reports of a new contract being prepared by United, nothing has been put on the table as of yet.
