Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Target Edinson Cavani Nears PSG Move

Express. The Blues are set to be frustrated in their pursuit of the Uruguayan striker, as PSG are expected to tie up a deal for the highly-rated star in a matter of hours. The Napoli marksman was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with some reports even claiming he had agreed personal terms with the Europa League winners on a salary of £7.2 million-a-season. But now it seems Jose Mourinho's side have missed out with the Ligue 1 outfit set to announce their latest summer acquisition this afternoon. A report in Spanish newspaper Marca claims PSG will pay £55 million for the 26-year-old, and will offer the player a staggering £8.5 million-a-season to play at the Parc des Princes, dwarfing that which was offered by Chelsea. Cavani was prolific last season, and his 29 Serie A goals made him Italy's top scorer. He also netted 38 times in 43 overall outings for Napoli, including seven in as many European appearances. Since his move from Palermo in 2010, he has scored 104 times in 138 games. Chelsea are now expected to switch their attentions to Aston Villa's Christian Benteke, who has handed in a transfer request.
