Chelsea Transfer News: Nemanja Matic Set For Blues Medical

Nemanja Matic is set to undergo a medical at Chelsea ahead of his proposed £21 million return to the club, according to the BBC. The Benfica midfielder arrived in London from Lisbon on Tuesday night and is expected to sign on at Stamford Bridge after successful completion of the medical. The 25-year-old left Chelsea for less than £5 million three years ago as part of the deal that saw defender David Luiz arrive from Benfica. But Blues boss Jose Mourinho quickly identified the defensive midfielder as a key target on his return to the west London club, who have no issue with re-signing a player they let go. Chelsea are expected to offset some of the cost of Matic by selling Kevin De Bruyne to Wolfsburg for £16 million. Matic first joined Chelsea from Slovakian side MFK Kosice on a four-year deal for £1.5 million in 2009. He made just two Premier League appearances and was an unused substitute in the Blues' 2-0 win over Portsmouth in the 2010 FA Cup final. However, a series of promising performances in Portugal has seen his market value sky rocket as he looks to become Chelsea's first signing of the winter window.
