5. Ryan Bertrand
With Ashley Cole's long-term future still undecided, there is a real opportunity for Ryan Bertrand to grab the bull by the horns so to speak and make a claim for the left-back spot. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, right-back César Azpilicueta has been operating in an unfamiliar left-back role, keeping him and Cole out of the side, though this has worked to varying degrees of success with both Sunderland and Stoke helping themselves to a bagful of goals in their last two Premier League outings. Jose Mourinho should give Bertrand a chance at left-back and start playing players in their correct positions - he may find that it works as the former Gillingham man is more accomplished on the left-side of defence. If Chelsea had any natural heir to Cole it would be Bertrand, though oddly, he has only played 63 minutes of league football all season, and is gathering dust on the bench.
