2. Brian Lara
Breaking the test match individual score record twice and also holding the first class record leaves Brian Lara as a pretty much one-man walking feat, and it only seemed fair to showcase all three of his amazing achievements rather than just pick one. Laras incredible feat of being the only man to reclaim the record test score with innings of 375 and 400* (both against England) is an incredible achievement in itself, but the fact that he also holds the first class record for his sensational 501 off 427 balls for Warwickshire in 1994 leaves Lara as a feat personified, and one of the greatest batsmen to ever grace the game.
Why It Was Amazing To hold one record would be amazing, but to hold them both at the same time is just ridiculous, especially when Lara had to regain the test record. To bat that well for that length of time is no mean feat, and an indication of the greatness of the man.
Could It Happen Again? It could, but it may take a long time. Younus Khan came close in 2009 against Sri Lanka in 2009, with the match fizzling out to a draw and Khan nicely poised going into the final day on 306*, but the Pakistani batsman eventually fell 87 runs short of the milestone after falling for 313 on day 5. As for the future, you could look to the likes of Alistair Cook who has developed a reputation for batting for a gargantuan amount of time, but it will more likely remain unbroken for the foreseeable future.
