The current favourite, Mackay left Cardiff City under a ridiculous cloud not of his own making last season, and his departure was seemingly rewarded karmically for the Welsh side when they were relegated at the end of the season under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Pros He's another highly rated coach, and one who has experience at a so-called underdog club - even if his Premier League experience with Cardiff wasn't exactly the most positive it could have been in the end. He wouldn't cost anything in compensation, unlike Pardew, and he probably also has an ally already in the Palace camp, in the shape of sporting director Iain Moody, who worked alongside Mackay at Cardiff and Watford, and according to the Evening Standard is pushing for his old colleague to get the job. The Standard also claim that Mackay will use his contacts with Sir Alex Ferguson to get him the job, and rumour has it, he knows a bit about football. Cons If Mackay gets a sniff that boardroom interference was at the heart of Pulis' departure, then he might well be very quickly filled with a sense of dread, thanks to the colourful time he had to endure at the end of his career with Cardiff City. While it's not the same as changing the team's colours and crest, Steve Parish's rigid control of his side's acquisitions agenda might well prove too close to having an owner who wants to control everything for Mackay.
