Crystal Palace At Christmas - 6 Things We Learned

2. Defensive Solidity

The positive to take from two nil-nil draws is, of course, two clean sheets. I've written before about how much our defence has improved this season and there was more evidence in the last two games. Bournemouth had been on an excellent run in their last few games, with wins over Chelsea and Manchester United, yet they came up against a resilient defence that restricted them to few chances and only one genuine sight at goal - a header that Matt Ritchie put wide. Against Swansea it was much more comfortable, yet when the back line were called into action they performed brilliantly. Notably from Scott Dann's outstanding Bobby Moore-esque tackle on Modou Barrow and Wayne Hennessey's brilliant last minute save from a Gylfi Sigurdsson free kick. Palace have now got the joint second best defence in the league and have conceded an impressive sixteen from their nineteen games.
