Emmanuel Adebayor Doubts Spurs' Killer Instinct
The Togo striker says Lilywhites need to be more clinical.
ESPN are reporting that Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor thinks Spurs are lacking the killer instinct that is often required to kill teams off in the Premier League and has urged his fellow players to develop one. Spurs completely dominated their game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday - with no less than 63% of the possession and 27 shots at goal in comparison to the Black Cats' 10 - but a late own goal from striker Harry Kane ensured the match ended all square. Nacer Chadli had given Spurs the lead after just two minutes, only for Adam Johnson to reply for Sunderland a minute later. The teams went in level at half time, but Spurs started the second half in the same way they started the first, with Christian Eriksen scoring two minutes in. However, Kane's unfortunate error sent the teams home with a share of the spoils. Adebayor had this to say to reporters:
We've got to finish teams off when we've got them on the ropes. We didn't do that. If it happens a lot then yes, it is worrying. If you play badly and draw then it is quite good, as I am sure the Sunderland players will tell you. Their manager won't be able to believe they came away with a point. It felt like a good performance, we were in such control, but we will head back, watch it again and see where we went wrong because when you have so much of a game and don't win, it means something has gone wrong.Adebayor did express that there were positives to take away from his team's performance, but he was also clearly frustrated that they didn't come away with all three points:
If there was a positive, it was that we started both halves very well. The manager stressed that, after the Liverpool result and we couldn't have made better starts to both halves. Twice we gave ourselves a platform and couldn't build on it. Even after they equalised the first time, we had many chances to put the game out of sight, but we couldn't do it.Is Adebayor right? Did Spurs need to sign another striker over the summer? What can the current crop of players do to improve their killer instinct? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
