Midfield

Adam Johnson The winger is a product of the Middlesbrough Youth Academy, making his debut aged 17 in a UEFA Cup Game. Since then he has scored 15 career goals for Premier League Champions Manchester City, and with his pace, would prove an excellent partnership with Ashley Young or Theo Walcott. Tom Cleverley Cleverley was heralded as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes in the centre of Manchester United's midfield in the wake of his retirement from football. Sir Alex Ferguson hailed him as "Manchester United's best player" in their pre-season 2-1 victory over Spanish giants Barcelona. With a spot now opening up in the middle of England's midfield, with Lampard, Gerrard, Parker and Carrick moving on, he is the perfect man to fill it. Jack Rodwell Jack Rodwell has represented his country at all levels, from Under-16 through to the senior team. He captained England at Under-16 level and made an appearance in England's senior team as they defeated World and European Champions Spain 1-0. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain Chamberlain is the second youngest player to represent England at a European Championship, just behind Wayne Rooney. Since signing from Southampton, he has already excited at Arsenal, scoring 4 goals and creating 3 assists in 26 appearances to win a place in Hodgson's Euro 2012 squad. Though he barely featured, he is certainly one to look out for in the future. Theo Walcott Walcott is no stranger to the England team. FIFA World Player of the Year winner Lionel Messi has described the winger as "one of the most dangerous players I have ever played against" whilst Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has drawn comparisons to Thierry Henry. He has been capped 27 times for England now, and has established himself as a regular at the Emirates. He is only going to mature as a player, and by the time the World Cup comes, he could be the complete package in midfield. Few will forget his wonder strike against Sweden to draw level, or his assist to Welbeck for the winner. Jordan Henderson Henderson wasn't in Roy Hodgson's 23 man Euro squad initially, that was until injury ruled out Frank Lampard. At 22 he has already established himself at Liverpool, making 48 appearances. He has also captained the England under-21 team and is billed by some as the next Steven Gerrard. Ashley Young Young has had a bit of an odd campaign. He didn't set Euro 2012 alight at all, despite either scoring or creating 11 of Englands last 20 goals prior to the competition. He netted 8 times in his debut season for Manchester United, before becoming hot property in his time at Aston Villa, where he netted 38 times. Due to his ability to play either as a right winger, attacking midfielder or striker, he surely won't struggle to find a place in the World Cup Squad. Jack Wilshire Wilshere made his first team debut for Arsenal in 2008, at the age of 16, becoming Arsenal's youngest ever league debutant. In his short career so far he has earned a number of accolades including the PFA Young Player of the Year and Arsenal's Player of the Season as voted on by the fans for his performances in his first full campaign for Arsenal during the 201011 season. He undoubtedly has a bright future for both club and country, proven by the fact that England have always decided to play him in an age group above his age. Wilshere was just 14 when he played for the England national under-16 football team, and at the age of 15, he began playing for the England national under-17 football team.
