Everton 0-1 West Brom - 6 Things We Learned

3. Joel Robles May Have Become Everton€™s First-Choice Goalkeeper

Robles took up his place between the sticks for the third match in a row when Everton took on West Brom, leaving veteran American stopper Tim Howard warming the bench. Howard has come under fire for some of his performances this season, but Martinez has stood by the USA international, defending him tooth and nail. When Robles was given a run of games due to his teammate taking a knock, it was assumed that the Spaniard was merely stepping in as injury cover, but he may have displaced Howard in the pecking order. With the American having regained match fitness, Robles was rewarded for keeping consecutive clean sheets with a start against the Baggies. But his performances raises question marks about whether he has the potential to become a Premier League regular. The keeper€™s positioning for the Baggies€™ goal was questionable - he strayed from his line but made little effort to intercept the corner - as was the way he organised his defence, with nobody on the far post to deal with Olsson€™s header as it sailed towards the top corner.
