Every Current Premier League Club's Biggest Transfer Bust

4. Tottenham Hotspur - Roberto Soldado

When a player the calibre of a Gareth Bale leaves your club for an eye-watering fee, the pressure is on to make sure that you invest the funds to restrengthen the team accordingly.

This was the situation Spurs found itself in back in 2013. Bale's record deal meant that the team had a huge transfer kitty to utilise, but it's fair to say that the reinvestment wasn't exactly successful.

This is best exemplified by the signing of striker Roberto Soldado for a then club-record £26 million. Soldado managed just 7 goals in 52 Premier League games as the Spaniard struggled to adapt to the English game before being sold to Villareal less than two years later at a loss.
