Most Expensive Spurs XI That Failed To Deliver

7. Alan Hutton (£9 Million)

Alan Hutton cost Spurs £9 million - a risky deal for a player who had only ever played in Scottish football, even if it was the then very dominant Glasgow Rangers. Scottish football is (quite literally) in a different league to the Premier League in England and paying that much for someone was always likely to end badly. The Scotland international right back proved himself to be a hugely overpriced player who simply wasn't cut out for life at the top end of the Premier League. He made 39 league starts in three and a half seasons at the club €“ a spell that included a loan stint at Sunderland. He now plays for Aston Villa, having moved there permanently. He has spent loan spells away from Villa Park at Nottingham Forest, Real Mallorca and Bolton Wanderers, but appears to have finally broken in to the Villains' first team.
